Introduction

Our client is a specialist in HVAC controls and a pioneer in smart building technology, operating across Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, and the surrounding areas. In addition to its technical capabilities, the company prides itself on its strong team culture – Hiring managers speak openly about their selective recruitment approach, with many team members having been with the company for over a decade.

As a specialist recruiter in the HVAC and building controls sector, our consultant Josh had a deep understanding of the current market demand for skilled technicians. When he reached out to the company’s President, he learned of a need for technicians based in the Philadelphia area.

Challenge

The client was currently looking to hire a Building Automation Systems (BAS) Construction Technician to support their ongoing projects. The ideal candidate would hold Niagara N4 certification, have hands-on experience with BAS installation and programming, particularly with Distech Controls, and be familiar with systems from leading manufacturers such as Honeywell, Siemens, and Schneider Electric. Just as importantly, the company was looking for someone who would be a strong cultural fit and could integrate seamlessly into the existing team.

Despite working with multiple recruiters, the client had struggled to find someone who met both their technical and cultural standards. Their high expectations made it difficult to move candidates through the process, and project timelines were beginning to feel the strain. They needed a time-efficient hiring solution that wouldn’t compromise on quality.

Solution

One of the benefits of working with a specialist Headhunter is the access to a targeted network of qualified candidates. After gaining a clear understanding of the client’s needs and expectations, Josh was quickly able to identify a suitable candidate from recent conversations.

Josh positioned the opportunity to the candidate, highlighting the potential career growth due to their high retention, and the company’s forward-thinking approach to technology, which immediately piqued the candidate’s interest.

The candidate was submitted and on the same day received positive feedback, resulting in an interview being arranged for later that week. Following a successful initial meeting, the candidate was invited to the office to assess team compatibility. This final step confirmed the mutual fit, and an offer was extended and accepted the same day.

One of the candidate’s concerns was securing a salary package that would match or exceed their previous role, especially considering commuting time. The client addressed this by offering a competitive increase, along with a company vehicle and fuel card, aligning with the candidate’s expectations.

Impact

The speed of the process, minimal resume filtering, and strong cultural alignment distinguished our service from other recruiters the client had previously partnered with.

Since joining earlier this year, the selected candidate has received strong feedback from the client, who expressed excitement about the new addition to the team. The technician has already contributed to improved project efficiency, helping keep timelines on track and budgets in check.

The successful placement led the client to engage us on two additional roles: another Technician and a Project Manager, both based in Pennsylvania.
